CHARLOTTE - On Friday evening, June 22, 2012, Charles Francis "Charlie" Hudson, 86, passed from this life to his home in Heaven.
Born Jan. 10, 1926, in Greenville, S.C., Charles was a son of the late Jordan Fred Hudson and Mattie Lucy Painter Hudson. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was owner of Charles Hudson Paint & Body Shop. Mr. Hudson was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church and loved cars and racing. He earned the nickname of "Good Time Charlie" for his keen sense of humor and love of traveling. He is also remembered as a good provider.
His family includes his wife, Grace F. Hudson; and three children, Cindy Howell (Steve) of Sherrills Ford, Charles F. Hudson Jr. of Charlotte and Christy Wilkinson of Gastonia; two grandchildren, John Overman and Shane Calhoun; and great-grandchildren, Kayla, Dereck and Brooklyn Overman and Cheyanne and Audrey Calhoun; as well as two brothers, Gordon Fred Hudson and James Leon Hudson.
His family also includes his stepchildren, Michael Hood, Kathy Lee, Nancy Barker and Marigrace Faulkner; stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Kleiss, Bobby Hood, Sandi McCarter and Daniel and Madison Faulkner; as well as stepgreat-grandchildren, Hannah Oxendine, Norah Kleiss and Zachary McCarter.
Mr. Hudson was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Lee McCoy Hudson; and a brother, Jordan William Hudson.
A service to celebrate Mr. Hudson's life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2012, in the chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Burns and the Rev. David Luther officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Mr. Hudson's family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
