SUPPLY - Charles Edward "Charlie" Zimmerman, 67, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on July 9, 2018.

A native of Waynesboro, Virginia, he was the son of the late Larry and Katie Via Zimmerman.

Charlie graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1968. He honorably served his country in the US Army, serving in Vietnam from 1969-1970. He was a retired Postmaster in Harrisonburg, Virginia. In 1996, he relocated to NC and began his real estate career with Prudential Carolina's Realty. He also worked with Black and Whisnant Realty. He began working with Allen Tate Realtors in 2004 and retired in 2017. He was a member of Gaston Association of Realtors and Gaston Chamber of Commerce, where he served as captain of the golf committee. He was a charter member of the Gastonia Evening Rotary Club, serving as President in 2012. He was a Paul Harris Fellow Recipient in 2015.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Myers Memorial United Methodist Church.

A service to celebrate his life will follow at 3 p.m. with Revs. Sally Queen and Eddie Hill officiating.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Leagon Zimmerman; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Brian Jordan of Mooresville; granddaughters, Paige Elizabeth and Riley Kathryn Jordan; brothers and sisters in law, Jim and Janet Zimmerman of Kent's Store, Va., Ron and Pauline Zimmerman of Woodlawn, Va., Frank and Jane Zimmerman of Fishersville, Va., Acey and Barbara Zimmerman of Waynesboro, Va.; step children, Bradley Harrison Wright and Whitney Elizabeth Wright; brothers in law and sisters-in-law, Eugene D. Jr. and Martha Leagon of Gastonia, William T. "Bill" and Kim Leagon of Bessemer City, James Douglas "Doug" and Donna Leagon of Lincolnton; numerous nieces and nephews; fur babies, Tucker and Zoie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Wayne Zimmerman.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. David Rickard and staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their special care and attention.
