STANLEY - Clyde William Dellinger, 77, died Oct. 18, 2012, at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville.
He was born in Cherryville on Jan. 9, 1935, son of the late Zene and Lillian Elizabeth Watts Dellinger. After his mother's death at age 4, he was raised at the Barium Springs Orphanage in Troutman.
He was a U.S. Marines and served with the U.S. Navy during and after the Korean War. He was a member of Rhyne-Cannon American Legion Post #266 in Stanley, was a former Stanley City Councilman, was a former member of the Stanley Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of Second Baptist Church in Mount Holly.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Shirley Payne Dellinger; two sons, Jeff Dellinger and wife, Carrie, of Stanley, Doug Dellinger and wife, Linda, of Alexis; three brothers, Paul Dellinger of Stanley, Larry Dellinger of Lincolnton, Dennis Dellinger of High Shoals; six grandchildren, Steven Griffin, Andrew Kapley, Benjamin Dellinger, Hannah Dellinger, Holly McMurray and Jessica Dellinger; two great-grandchildren, Lily Griffin and Ethan Haven; and a special granddaughter-in-law, Maranda Poteat.
Funeral service conducted by the Rev. Bruce Bradley will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly.
Interment with military honors will follow in Hillcrest Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday.
