David "Dave" Whiteford Long, 78, died in Gastonia on Jan.11, 2013, after a brief illness.
He recently moved from Shelby to Mount Holly.
David was born in Mount Holly on Sept. 27, 1934, to Walter D Long and Grace Hayes Long. He attended Mount Holly Schools and Belmont Abbey College. David married Janie Watts of Savannah, Georgia in 1956 and was married for 50 years. During a long career, Dave worked for Philco-Ford, Burroughs Corp, LPL Associates (his own company), Motel 6 and Wal-Mart (Shelby store).
He was preceded in death by his wife Janie and daughter Teresa Long.
He is survived by daughters, Denise Sisk of Gastonia, Rhonda Hill of Charlotte; grandson, Jake Davis and wife Sarah of Boston, Mass;
brothers, Walter Long of Kings Mountain, and Frank Long and wife Roz Dever of Davidson. May he rest in peace.
