CHARLOTTE - Donna Leanne Mooney Chavis, 41, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Jan. 25 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

She was a loving wife and mother and devoted her life to making sure that her family was taken care of, and that they always came first.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth (Kenny) Chavis of 16 years; a daughter, Hannah, age 4½; a son, Jordan, age 2½; her mother, Charlotte Mooney; her brother, Tony Mooney and his wife Shannon; and her grandmother, Grace Godwin, all of Mount Holly; her special aunt, Bobbie; special cousin, Shannon Goad and family; her uncle, Olin Godwin; and many special family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donnie Mooney, whom she has now joined in heaven.
She was dedicated servant to her Lord and her church where she served as the nursery director, sang in the choir, was a bus worker, and a great soul winner. She won many souls for the Lord. She was a true Christian lady and loved helping other in any way that she could. She was loyal to her church and pastor. Leanne, you will be missed greatly and loved always.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Chavis will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty Baptist Church, 3000 Sam Wilson Road, Charlotte, with the Rev. Gary Berry officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the church.
Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly is serving the family.
