GASTONIA - Doris Jean Jones Collins, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 21, 2012, at the Robin Johnson House in Dallas.
She was born in Cherokee County, S.C., on Nov. 27, 1923, to the late Colton Eldridge and Bessie Warren Jones.
Doris Jean was a loving spouse, mother, grandmother, and family caregiver. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Gastonia.
The family would like to thank the staff of Robin Johnson for their care during this time.
She is survived her daughter Nancy C. Patterson of Gastonia; grandson, Robbie Patterson and wife Chris of Mount Holly; granddaughters, Dana Eidt and husband Brad of Cramerton and Emmie Patterson of Belmont; great-grandchildren, Tori and Bailey Patterson of Mount Holly; sister-in-law, Winnie Collins of Shelby; nieces, Dianne Cook and Judy Stroupe.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Lawrence Collins.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Earl, with the Rev. David McClure officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the daughter's home in Gastonia.
