HENDERSONVILLE - Eileen Ragan Hawkins, 93, a longtime resident of Hendersonville and native of Gastonia, passed away March 22, 2014.

She was born in Gastonia on April 10, 1920, daughter of Daniel Pierce and Carey Howe Ragan.

Mrs. Hawkins was a successful business woman who operated the Next To New Shop in Hendersonville for many years with her friend and business partner Frankie Beddingfield.

She was a dedicated Pardee Hospital "Pink Lady" volunteer in Hendersonville and after returning to Gastonia, she continued to volunteer by delivering "Meals on Wheels" and being a polling place volunteer.

Mrs. Hawkins is survived by her three children, Mary Julia Hawkins of Hendersonville, Catherine Hawkins Drake (husband Phil) of Charlotte and Neal Hawkins III (wife Beverly) of Hendersonville, three grandchildren, Lisa Hawkins Guyton of Flat Rock and Brian and Justin Drake of Charlotte. In addition, surviving her are three great-grandchildren; Sophia Guyton, Connor and Holden Drake.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Oakwood Cemetery in Gastonia.
