Elizabeth "Betsy" James Hinson, 65, joined her husband, Roger, in heaven on June 29, 2012.

She was a native of Gaston County and the daughter of the late Edward Anthony James and Ruby Elizabeth Harrison James.

Elizabeth and Roger were married for more than 48 years and were seldom apart. Betsy touched her family and those close to her by having an enduring love as a wife, mother and grandmother (Nana). She shared her passion for music and gardening with us all and would never let you be less than your best. After raising her own children, she nurtured and guided the lives of five grandchildren and countless others by opening an early childhood development center and overseeing as director. She is and will be forever missed.

Betsy was the owner and operator of Early Childhood Devel-opment Center in Gastonia and a member of Bessemer City Church of God.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Stephen Hinson Sr.; and son, Roger Stephen Hinson Jr.

Survivors include her son, Jer-emy A. Hinson of Portland, Ore.; daughter, Kristal Bumgardner and husband, Terry of Gastonia; grandchildren, Raegan and Ryan Bumgardner and Stephen, Hope and Hunter Hinson; and a sister, Tina Watts and husband, McCoy of Maryland.

The family will receive friends at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Monday, July 2, 2012, at Bessemer City Church of God with the Revs. Harold Ashe and Bobby Smith officiating.
