MOUNT HOLLY - Eugene "Gene" L. Walls went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 22, 2012, with his family by his side.

On Dec. 19, 1934, Jonah and Alice Walls were blessed with their fourth child, Gene.
He began working at an early age with his father in construction. In 1952, he graduated from Belmont High School. On Dec. 18, 1954, he married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Jane Wingate. Gene was a general contractor, building homes in Gaston and Mecklenburg County. Later he established Cimeron Apartments in Belmont. Before retiring, Gene worked for Summey Building System as crew chief over the modular home division. He was a former member of Centerview Baptist Church of North Belmont. He was a charter member and trustee of Ridgeview Baptist Church in Mount Holly.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Jane Walls; his two daughters, Cynthia Walls Woolbright and husband Michael E. Woolbright of Mount Holly, Kelly Walls Sikes and husband Gary H. Sikes of Polkton; four grandchildren, Farran Woolbright, Mekayla Sikes, Carson Sikes and Carrie Sikes; his brother, Howard Walls of Belmont; brother-in-law, Pat Paterson of Stanley; sister-in-law, Catherine Wingate Derr of Charlotte and many neph-ews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.A. and Alice Stowe Walls, and his sisters, Margaret Walls and Josephine Patterson.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Walls will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Ridgeview Baptist Church with the Rev. Leroy Mobley officiating.
Burial will be at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly and at other times will be at the home of Far-ran Woolbright, 127 Circle Drive, Mount Holly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Ridgeview Baptist Church (Gene Walls Fund), 105 Pine Street Mount Holly NC 28120.
Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly is serving the family.
