GASTONIA - Harold Lefty" Simpkins, 79, of 420 Larkhall Court went to be with his Heavenly Father on June 24, 2012, at his residence.
He was a native of Marion, Ohio, born Nov. 4, 1932, to the late John and Minnie Gates Simpkins.
Harold was a member of the Moose Lodge for 38 years and The Eagles club. He was an avid bowler, fast pitch baseball player and gardener. He was a Burner at Marion Power Shovels and loved all kinds of sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Ronald Simpkins step daughter Shannon Kay Anderson, brothers Archie , Jim, Daryl, and Sheridan "Jeep" Simpkins, sisters Dorothy Simpkins Baker and Pauline Chard & Husband Bob.
He was survived by his wife of 30 years Judy Jacobs Simpkins, sons Dale A. Simpkins and wife Linda of Aberdeen, Maryland, Harold "Rocky" Simpkins and wife Paula of Marion, Ohio, Gary Simpkins of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Robert Simpkins and wife Marsha of Delaware, Ohio, and daughter, Annette Tuttle of Bucyrus, Ohio; stepchildren Sonya Rhodes and husband Alvin of Lincolnton, Merit Simanton and husband Troy of Mansfield, Ohio, Marla Rhoades and husband Dan of Roseville, Mich., 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; a very special niece, June Osborne of Marion, Ohio.
Celebration of life service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with Kenny Champion officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Inurnment will be private.
