GASTONIA - Imogene "Grandmaw" Shubert Carter, 88, of 321 N. Pine St., died Jan. 10, 2013, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

A native of Alto, Ga., she was the daughter of the late James Cleve and Charlee Wade Shubert and wife of the late James "Slick" Carter. She worked alongside her husband for many years as the receptionist and bookkeeper of Carter Moving and Storage Service and Ace Cab Company of Gastonia. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Janelle Carter of Gastonia; grandchildren, Mindi Carter and Shane Newton, Kyle Carter and Ashley Hartsoe, and Austin and wife Casey Carter, all of Gastonia; great-grandchildren, Charleigh Newton, Carter Newton, and Avery Carter, all of Gastonia; several nieces and nephews; and many neighborhood friends who always called her grandmaw.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by brothers, W.C. Shubert, M.B. Shubert and Vavor Shubert; and sisters, Eloise Ashley and Ruby Darnell.
Funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Richard Cole at 3 p.m. Sunday at West Fifth Avenue Freewill Baptist Church.
Interment will be in Gaston Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church.
