WARRENTON - James Ernest Crenshaw Sr., 88, died April 15, 2013, at his home.

Family visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton on Thursday April 18.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Macon Baptist Church with the Revs. Rob Evans and Randy Wise officiating.

Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Warrenton.

Mr. Crenshaw was born December 3, 1924 in Gastonia, NC to the late Joseph and Grace Crenshaw. He was educated and lived in Gaston County until moving to Warren County in 1998 with his surviving spouse, Nell Burleson Crenshaw.

After many years in the textile industry, Ernest found great enjoyment and satisfaction in a career with Carolina Freight Carriers as a mechanic at their home location in Cherryville, NC. After his retirement from there in 1987, he enjoyed practicing his considerable skills in home repair work for both he and Nell, plus countless friends and relatives.

He was always especially proud of his Naval service during World War II. He served 3 1/2 years aboard a destroyer escort in the Atlantic Fleet. In later years, he was involved in numerous reunions across the country with surviving shipmates. We have lost another member of the "greatest generation."

The only organization that Ernest was a life long member was the Baptist church. For over 25 years he was a member at West Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in Gastonia where he was a regular teacher, youth leader and frequent chariman of the deacon board. After moving to Warren County, he was a regular member of Macon Baptist Church until his health started to fail. For those who knew him best, he will be most remem-bered for the unwavering love of God that gave him the ability to be a wonderful husband, father and friend. For those fortunate enough to be present when Ernest prayed, you were literally witnessing a moment of divine communication between God and man that would stir your own soul.

He is survived by his wife Nell; son, Dr. James E. Crenshaw,Jr and wife Kathy; brother, Eugene Crenshaw and wife Hilda of Ashburn, GA; sister, Claire Moore of Gastonia and numerous nieces and nephews.
