GASTONIA - James Elbert Fortner Sr., 76, passed away March 24, 2013, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Gastonia, son of the late William A. Jr. and Lucille Glaze Fortner.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Fortner.

James was a sheet metal fabricator, retiring from Freightliner. He was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church, and a member of the XYZ Club. He was a former volunteer at CAM and was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. James was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Stella Frasure Fortner; son, Jimmy E. Fortner, Jr. and wife Kim; daughter, Karen E. Fortner; grandchildren, Kara C. Emery, Beau D. Fortner, Drake Fortner; brother, Wayne Fortner and wife Elaine; sister, Kay Davis; brothers and sisters in law, Gene Frasure and wife Gerlene, Tommy Frasure and wife Barbara, Garmen Frasure and wife Dorothy; sisters and brothers in law, Doris Dixon and husband Lester, Deloris Brown, Sue Holland and husband Frank, Judy Long and husband Ronnie and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.

The funeral service will follow the visitation at 3 p.m. in the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors with Dr. M.O. Owens Jr.

Entombment will follow in Gaston Memorial Park Mausoleum of Peace.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Annie Armstrong Mission Fund, c/o Parkwood Baptist Church, 1827 Dixon Road, Gastonia, NC 28054.
