DALLAS - James Edward Smith, 87, of Blue Tick Lane, died March 9, 2014, at Brian Resources in Lincolnton.

Mr. Smith was born in Durham County on Dec. 20, 1926, son of the late John and Gertrude Bane Smith. He was a dairy farmer and retired from Pharr Yarns. He faithfully and honorable served his country in the US Army during WW II.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Margie Nolen Smith in 2012, son Paul Smith, grandsons Mark and Clayton Smith and two brothers.
Survivors include his daughters Becky Self and Phyllis Hammonds (James), both of Dallas, sons William Smith (Jane), Dallas, Ronnie Smith (Debbie), Woodruff, S.C., Garry Smith (Charlotte), Bishop, Texas, Brian Smith, Dallas, and John Smith (Regina) Dallas, 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and a brother, John Smith (Betty) Lincolnton.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at Carpenter's Funeral and Cremation Services with the Rev. John Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in Hardin Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of William and Jane Smith, 235 Poplar Hill Road, Dallas.
