STANLEY - Jane Ella Hinkle Whitley, 76, passed away April 9, 2013, at the Robin Johnson Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Mount Holly, daughter of the late Wallace and Mary Hinkle.
She was a graduate of Mount Holly High School.
Jane was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She retired from Gaston County Dye Machine Company after 27 years of service. She previously worked at Betty's Day Care and was known in Stanley as the beloved "Miss Jane."
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Mary Williams Hinkle; brothers Chess W. "Billy" Hinkle and Jack Glenn Hinkle Sr. ; sis-ters-in-law Bobbie Hinkle, Mausko Hinkle, and brother-in-law Tommy Abernathy.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Max Houston Whitley, Sr; two daughters, Margaret W. Lynch, of Stanley, Donna W. Smith and hus-band, Hap Smith of Denver, NC, and son Max Houston Whitley, Jr. of Stanley; one sister, Mary Lee Abernathy of Mount Holly; grandchildren, Chrissie Eller and husband, Michael of Mooresville, Dana Thompson of Mooresville, Kathryn Smith of Orlando, FL., and Patrick Smith of Denver. She is also survived by her beloved great-grand children, Jonathan, Caroline, Thomas, Savannah and Clayton, who brought her many hours of joy.
A service to celebrate the life of Jane will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly with Minister Jim Huggins offici-ating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
Burial will take place at Hill Crest Cemetery following the service.
