GASTONIA - James Connor "J.C." Sanford, 78, died June 25, 2012.

Born in Gaston County, he was the son of the late James Eli Sanford and Gracie Propst Sanford.
Mr. Sanford received his formal education in the Gaston County Schools and graduated from Gaston College with an A.S. Degree in Criminal Justice. Mr. Sanford entered law enforcement where he was employed with the Gaston Rural Police and served as Police Chief for three years. He moved to Glendale Heights, IL where he served as Police Chief and then to Grenada, MS where he also served as Police Chief. Mr. Sanford returned to Gaston County where he worked as an investigator in the Fraud/Security Division of Wells Fargo Bank until his retirement.
He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and a US Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Sanford is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Patsy Redding Sanford; daughter, Beverly Sanford of Princeton, NJ; sisters, Margaret Simon of West Palm Beach, FL and Martha Smith-Heinz of Gastonia.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service for Mr. Sanford beginning 10 a.m. Friday at New Hope Baptist Church. Pastor Chuck Grant will officiate.
Burial will follow at Evergreen – A Quiet Place.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church Building Fund, 2024 Redbud Drive, Gastonia, NC 28056.
