GASTONIA - Jimmy Edward Barrett Sr., 83, went to be with his Savior on May 17, 2018.

He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Daniel and Rosella Barrett.

Jim was a Third Degree Mason of King Solomon Lodge #704 and a Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Most importantly, he began his retirement years by studying the Word in devotions each day. He believed daily devotions led to a dedicated Christian life. Jim was the founder of City Fire and Safety, Inc., a deacon and choir member of Victory Baptist Church, and most recently a member of Parkwood Baptist Church and their XYZ Club. He was a loving husband to Nancy Karriker of the home for 63 years. He loved Gardening, the beach, and the outdoors.

Also left to cherish his memory are children Eddie (Sybil), Pam Williamson (Scott); grandchildren, Daniel, Tyler and Lilly of Gastonia, and Weston of Greenville, NC.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Clyde Barrett and Ruth Clary, as well as a granddaughter, Erin Kathleen Barrett.

Family and friends of Jimmy Barrett are invited to attend his visitation beginning at 12:30 until 2 p.m. Saturday at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia with his funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. in Founders Chapel. The Rev. Jeff Long and Rev. David Belle Isle will officiate. Burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park.
