BELMONT - John Evangelos Mageras, 54, formerly of Charlotte, died June 13, 2012, surrounded by his family at his home.
John fought his long battle with cancer with the same passion that he lived his whole life with.
John was born September 22, 1957 in Karpenissi, Greece, son of Irene Stathopolous Mageras of Greece and the late Evangelos Mageras. At the age of fifteen John moved to Winchester, VA where he attended high school. Following graduation he moved to Charlotte, NC and later Williamsburg, VA where he would begin his career in the restaurant business. John was involved in many restaurants throughout his life. For the last 18 years, he has been a managing partner of the Captain's Cap Restaurant in Belmont.
John was the quissessential host and took great pride in serving his customers. While he truly appreciated his US citizenship, he cherished his trips to Greece and kept his Greek heritage close to his heart.
In addition to his mother, John will be truly missed by his wife, Lauri Mandaro Mageras; the joy of his life, his three children that he was so proud of, Evangelos, Rena and Maria; and two sisters, Chrysanthi (George) Mageras and Eleni (Kostas) Vlahos, both of Greece; and numerous family members.
The funeral service and trisagion will be at 11:30 AM on Monday, June 18, 2012 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral with the Reverend Michael Varvarelis officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Cathedral from 11:00 until 11:30 on Monday.
Memorials may be sent to Holy Angels Nursery, P.O. Box 710, Belmont, NC 28012.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. James Boyd and Janet for their care and attention during John's
illness.
The family would also like to offer tremendous gratitude to the Captain's Cap family, particularly, Mr. & Mrs Kostas Zaharopoulos,
Mr. & Mrs. Speros Stathopoulos, & Mrs. Stavros Kakouras and Mr. & Mrs. John Hondros.
