YNCM (CMC) John "Jack" Turner Butler Jr. (USNR Retired) was born on November 7, 1934 and died on November 6, 2018. Jack was born in Charlotte, NC, grew up in Concord, NC and graduated from Harrisburg High School and Kings Business College. Jack lived in Charlotte prior to his move to Mt. Holly. He was the son of Libby Zeman Butler and John Turner Butler Sr. who preceded him in death as did his first wife, Charlotte Geiger Butler, his second wife, Myrtle Cox Foster Butler and his brother William "Billy" E. Butler, all of Charlotte. Jack is survived by his sister Kitty Smith and husband Larry of Ft. Mill, SC and brother-in-law Leo Geiger and wife Dale of Hendersonville, NC, along with nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his two Daughters and their families, Mary Foster Ford of Reidville, SC and fiancé Brian Stogner of Charlotte and Robin Foster Medlock and husband Joey of Dallas, NC along with granddaughters Caroline Medlock, Kathryn Ford and Kate Medlock.
Jack retired after 36 years active Army, Air Force Reserve and Naval Reserve retiring with the rank of Commander Master Chief. Jack also served 3 years on the Secretary of Navy National Policy Board at the Pentagon. In addition, Jack retired from Purina Mills after 37 years of service. Jack was a former member of Rocky Ridge Methodist Church –Jackson Park- Concord, NC and is presently a member of McAdenville Wesleyan Church, McAdenville, NC. Jack was a member of many veteran, military and service organizations including VFW Post 9488, 187 Airborne RCt, Masonic Lodge No. 739, and Oasis Shriners among others.
Visitation will be held at McAdenville Wesleyan Church, 300 Wesleyan Dr. McAdenville, NC on Sunday, November 11 from 6-8 pm. The funeral service, which will be officiated by Pastor Brian Matherlee and assisted by Pastor Pat Hannon, will be held Monday, November 12 at 1:00pm at McAdenville Wesleyan Church with burial to follow at Charlotte Memorial Gardens, Charlotte, NC at 3:00pm with Military Honors conducted by the Naval Reserve Center, Charlotte, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to McAdenville Wesleyan Church Building Fund or Missions Fund. Arrangements for the family are in the care of Carothers Funeral Home, Stanley, NC.
