STANLEY - John Lewis Weathers Sr., 77, passed away peacefully after a long illness.

He was born in Charlotte on April 23, 1937, son of the late Dr. Bailey Graham Weathers Sr. and Ora Bumgardner Weathers, and was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Adalia Mauney Weathers.
He graduated from Stanley High School and attended Gardner Webb College and Wake Forest Univer-sity. He served in the National Guard.
Survivors include three children, Lewis Weathers and wife Colleen of Oak Island, N.C., Steven Weath-ers and wife Camilla of Dallas, N.C., Edee Nash and husband Steve of Mt. Holly; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Ann Grigg and husband Irvin of Kernersville, and two brothers, Dr. Graham Weathers and wife Gail of Stanley and Jerry Weathers of Burlington.
A memorial service with military honors will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel Mausoleum of Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, with the Rev. David McClure officiating.
