BELMONT - Maj. Joseph M. McCormick, 36, died July 1, 2012, while battling wildfires in South Dakota.

He was born on March 9, 1976 in Newberry, SC.
Joseph should be remembered as a faithful follower of Jesus. He sought to live as a missionary in every aspect of his life: at home with his family, in his service to his country, in his community by being a blessing to all who knew him and through his active participation at Exodus Church. He worked as an Instructor Pilot with the North Carolina Air National Guard, Charlotte.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Heather White McCormick and his four beautiful children, Luke, Henry, Thomas and Margaret Ann McCormick all of the home.
He is also survived by his father and stepmother, Stephen and Patricia McCormick of Columbia, SC, mother and stepfather, Sharon and Audie Har-dee of Conway, SC, grandmother, Ida McCormick, half brothers, Kevin Hardee of Conway, SC, Brian Hardee and wife Kirsten of Conway, SC, half sisters, Jennifer Braeunig and husband Jeff of Mauldin, SC, Justine McCormick of Greenville, SC and several nieces nephews and many extended family.
A service celebrating Joseph's life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at South Point Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Burial with full Military Honors will be at Evergreen –"A Quiet Place."
In lieu of flowers, memorials in the name of Joseph M. McCormick may be sent to the Heather White McCormick Fund, Community One Bank, 6440 W. Wilkinson Blvd., Belmont, NC 28012.
