GASTONIA - Juanita Tate Cannon, 90, passed away on Saturday, July 06, 2013, at Courtland Terrace.
She was born in Gaffney, S.C., on Aug. 5, 1922, a daughter of the late Clarence Victor and Gertrude Sheppard Tate.
Juanita was a long-time member of Loray Baptist Church. She was a charter member of the Lucille Tatum Club and an ECA member for 66 years.
She is survived by her children; son, John Lee Cannon and wife Judy of Gastonia; daughter, Sharon Newton of Gastonia; sister, Edna T. Burle-son of Gastonia; grandchildren, Jeffrey C. Newton and wife Lynda, Jason C. Newton and wife Tania, Ann Marie Taylor and husband Randy, Susan Tallent and husband Chris, Jennifer Fallin and husband Chris and several nieces and nephews.
"Mama Cannon" will also be greatly missed by her 13 great grandchildren.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Von Cannon; son, Charles "Chuck" Cannon; sisters, Pat Barnes and Sarah Adams McGee; infant brother, Clarence V. Tate, Jr. and son-in-law, Bill Newton.
A service by the graveside will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at Gaston Memorial Park with Dr. Kent Cranford officiating.
Guests are asked to wear bright and colorful clothing in Juanita's honor. The family will receive friends following the service.
