GASTONIA - Kenneth Ray (Kenny) Sparks, 60, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, March 20, 2014. He was born in Morganton on November 9, 1953. His parents are Mariana Perkins Sparks and Bill Leo Sparks. Kenny graduated from Hunter Huss High School and attended Gaston College. He married Beverly Elaine Meeks on August 29, 1981.

Kenny went to work for Rainbow Paint and Decorating over thirty years ago. He was a loyal and faithful employee. A true sports enthusiast, he especially enjoyed watching Tarheel basketball and Panthers football. He enjoyed being outside working in the yard, cleaning his cars and playing with his Grandog Brock. Kenny was a kind and loving husband and father. Those who knew him will always remember him as friendly and outgoing. Kenny never met a stranger.

Kenny is survived by his wife Beverly of 32 years; son Joshua ( BethAnn) Sparks of Charlotte; mother Mariana Sparks of Winston-Salem; father Bill (Bobbi) Sparks of Belmont; mother-in-law Mildred Queen Meeks of Gastonia; sister Carole (Rick) Murray of Winston-Salem; brother-in-law Jeffery Meeks and fiancée Michelle Pittillo of Gastonia; step-brother Sean (Cindy) Bumgarner of Gastonia; step-brother Rick Fortenberry and sister-in-law Joy Fortenberry of Lincolnton. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Ana Linn, Sarah and David Murray; CJ and Courtney Bumgarner; Montgomery and Monica Fortenberry . Kenny was preceded in death by his brother, David Michael Sparks and father-in-law William Harold Meeks.

The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 7 pm, Sunday, March 23, 2014 at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia. A celebration of life will take place at 2 pm on Monday, March 24, 2014 at McLean Funeral Directors with Pastor Joey Denton and Pastor Junior Morris officiating. Interment will follow in Gaston Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Parkwood Baptist Church, 1729 E Garrison Blvd. Gastonia, NC 28054.
