Loyl Worth Quinn, Sr. began living his new life on July 4, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in York, S.C. on April 30, 1931 to the late Benjamin and Georgia Quinn.
Mr. Quinn graduated from Highland High School in Gastonia, N.C. and earned his Bachelor's Degree from Johnson C. Smith University where he pledged Omega Psi Phi. He also acquired his Master's Degree in Mathematics from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. in 1964. His love for learning led him to complete two years of post graduate studies at Hampton Institute in Virginia. He also served his country and completed four years in the Air Force.
Mr. Quinn was employed 37 years by the Shelby City School System. He began his career in education as a teacher and through his hard work and dedication was ele-vated to Principal at Shelby Junior High and James Love Elementary Schools.
He loved and was an avid golfer and played with friends every chance he got. Mr. Quinn was a long standing member of Durham United Methodist Church in Shelby, N.C. He served on several boards and committees.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hallie Rhyne Quinn. He is survived by his children, Jeffery Crosby Rhyne, Sheila Quinn Funderburke, Janet Lynn Quinn, Loyl W. Quinn Jr.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two nieces; one nephew; and a special friend, Gwen Robinson.
The funeral will be held July 10, 2012 at First Baptist Church, 120 North Lafayette Street, Shelby NC, 28150. The quiet hour will begin at 2:30 pm and the service will begin at 3:30 pm. Interment will be at Cleveland Memorial Park, 1225 College Avenue, Boiling Springs, NC 28017.
