A Memorial Mass to commemorate the life of Mary H. Thomas of 110 Lakewood Road, Belmont, will be offered at Belmont Abbey
Basilica on Satur-day, June 23rd at 1:30 p.m. Father David Kessinger, O.S.B., will officiate.
A reception will follow at 3 p.m. in the Mezzanine located in the Student Commons on the Belmont Abbey College campus. Family and friends are cordially invited.
Mary was the eldest of twelve children of Mark and Agnes Williams Hedrick. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and Sacred Heart Junior College. She earned her B.A. while on the staff of the Abbey library in 1981 and was employed there from 1970 until 1992 when she retired as Reference Librarian. Mary's deep appreciation of art, literature, and all things beautiful rendered this her ideal setting after her years of child-rearing were com-plete.
Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Guy C. Thomas, Chief Petty Officer, U.S.N. Retd., her four brothers and two of her seven sisters.
She is survived by five children; Guy M. Thomas, Leo P. Thomas, Mary Ellen Messina, Margaret Louise Neese and Anne Norton.
She has 10 grandchildren plus great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by five sisters, Hildegarde Carter, Elizabeth Wilson, Agnes Sapp, Barbara Lawin and Genevieve Hedrick.
Mary will long be remembered and cherished for her unflaggingly deep devotion, loyalty, and love for family and friends. Her unconditional kindness and non-judgmental acceptance led her to become friend, mentor, confidante and surrogate mother to many throughout her life. Her brilliant intellect and keen wit outlasted her disease into her final days and she died with the grace and dignity with which she lived.
Rest well, Gentle Soul, may your eternity have a wonderful library where you may read and converse with all those you love who have gone before, and all who will follow.
