BELMONT - Max L. Deaton, 84, passed away Feb. 16, 2013

Max was born April 30, 1928, son of the late William Lee Deaton and Martha Abernathy Deaton of McAden-ville. He was the youngest child of the family. He was predeceased by his brother, Cornelius B. Deaton, and sis-ters,Johnsie D. Huggins, Francis D.
Long and Miss Elsie Deaton.
He was a faithful member of South Point Baptist Church.
Max Deaton was a well known independent automobile dealer in Belmont, NC for 45 years. He was a mem-ber of the Belmont Chamber of Commerce and the North Carolina Independent Automobile Dealer Associa-tion.
Max was a general aviation enthusiast and soloed his first airplane at sixteen years old. He served in the US Air Force and was based in Texas. He eventually owned several different types of airplanes and based them at McCord's Aero Service in Gastonia, NC. He was known for his generosity in letting his fellow flying buddies fly his airplanes. He also enjoyed flying with his sons, Bob and Mark.
He was also an avid golfer. He belonged to the Lunch Bunch Golf Association of Lakewood Golf Club and Green Meadows Golf Club in Mt. Holly. He had a career total of seven hole-in-ones.
He is survived by his wonderful wife of 64 years, Violet Gittens Deaton, son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Debbie Deaton, daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Shepherd and son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Trina Deaton. Grandchildren are Brian David Shepherd and wife Mandy, Marta Deaton Wherren and husband Masters, Melissa Shepherd McDaniel and husband Dee, Tracy Deaton Poplin and husband Curtis, Christopher Lee Deaton, Justin Edward Deaton and Leah Marie Deaton. Great-grandchildren are Makensie Shay McDaniel, Madeline Nicole Poplin, Eloise Masters Wherren, Luke Deaton Poplin, Wade McNeill Poplin, Banks Deaton Wherren and Davis George Wherren.
Services will be held Wednesday at South Point Baptist Church in Belmont. Visitation is 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Funeral service is at 1 p.m., officiated by Dr. James Hilton.
Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate gifts to South Point Baptist Church Children's Ministry, 124 Horsley Avenue, Belmont, NC, 28012.
