GASTONIA - Max J. Fowler, 87, passed away June 13, 2012, at Morningside Assisted Living in Gastonia.

He was born in Cleveland County on April 4, 1925, to the late Barney and Verniah Yarborough Fowler. He was retired from Pneumafil Corp. after 42 years of service and was a US Army Air Corp veteran WWII. Max and his wife Betty were charter members of Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Charlotte until they moved to Gastonia.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother and sister in law Ned M. and Dot Fowler and brother in law Dewey Pearson.

Max is survived by his wife Betty; son and daughter in law Louis and Diane Fowler of Prospect KY; daughter and son in law Anne and Gary Schenk of Gastonia; grandchildren Scott and Laney Schenk and Lloyd, Harrison and Elliott Fowler; sister in law Betty Pearson of Anderson SC.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Gastonia. The Rev. Jim Westmoreland officiating.

A reception will follow the service.
