FOREST CITY - Maxine Dale Bowen, 84, of Harrill Dairy Road, Forest City, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at Hospice House of Forest City.

A native of Gaston County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Dale and Cora Mae Dougan and widow of the late Kenneth M. Bowen Sr. Mrs. Bowen was a homemaker and a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where she was a part of the Sisters of Service and also enjoyed missions.

Survivors include her son, Ken M. Bowen Jr. of Forest City; two daughters, Dorothy Bowen Walker and husband, Milton, of Charlotte and Helen Bo-wen Clayton of Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Velma Guin of Bessemer City; grandchildren, Jamie Walker and wife, Tracy, of Sammamish, Wash., Jason Clayton and wife, Michelle, of Columbia, S.C., Sarah Clayton of Greenville, S.C., Matthew Atchley of Charleston, S.C., and LeAnn Hsiang and husband, Ben, of Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Mary Katherine Walker, Anna Elizabeth Walker and Carter Michael Hsiang; and her sister-in-law, Frances Bowen. Mrs. Bowen was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Bowen Atchley, her daughter-in-law, Dianne Melton Bowen, and a grandson, Ken M. Bo-wen III.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, in the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Philbeck officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service in the church sanctuary. A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at the Mount Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery, Bessemer City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, P.O. Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043 or the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Building Fund, 397 Mount Pleasant Church Road, Forest City, NC 28043. The family will be at the home of her son, 252 Harrill Dairy Road, Forest City.
