GASTONIA - Maxine Mary Hood Golob, 86, died peacefully on March 22, 2013, at the Robin Johnson House, Dallas after a brief illness with her loving family by her side.

She was born March 25, 1926, in Estherville, Iowa, daughter of the late Roy and Maude Kramer Hood.
Maxine and her late husband, Edward "Ed" Frank Golob were married in 1951 in Estherville, Iowa and moved to Gastonia in 1954.
Maxine was a full time mother from 1953 until 1973. From 1973 to 1988, she worked as a Teacher's Assistant at Lingerfeldt and Pleasant Ridge Elementary Schools in Gastonia.
She was a devoted wife, mother, friend, and teacher and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Her living relatives are two sisters, LaVon Brickman of St. Anthony, Minnesota, Sherie Scheer of Venice, California; two daughters, Susan Popiel and husband John of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, Mary Golob of Wilmington, North Carolina; two sons, Michael Golob and wife Kim of Irmo, South Carolina, Joseph Golob and wife Donna of Greer, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Kimberly Lonander, Daniel Golob, Zach Golob and Matthew Golob; four great grandchildren, Elora and Isaac Lonander, Eli and Micah Golob; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday with a Rosary Service to follow at Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Roger Arnsparger officiating.
Graveside services will be private for the family at Belmont Abbey Cemetery.
