GASTONIA - Millard Judson Preslar, 88, passed away Feb. 28, 2013.

He was the widower of Betty Preslar and the son of the late Raymond Preslar and Hettie Thomas Preslar.

He was a native of Union County, retired from the North Carolina Highway Patrol with over 30 years of service. He served with the United States Marines during WWII and was present when the flag was raised at Iwo Jima.

He is survived by three daughters, Wanda Ramsey of Gastonia, Shyrl Hansil and husband Joe of Gastonia and Linda Humphries and husband Grover of Greenville, S.C., five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends, prior to the service, from 1 until 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Family Life Center at Park Street United Methodist Church in Belmont.

The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Park Street United Methodist Church with the Revs. Gary Richardson and Buck Harper officiating.

Interment will be in Evergreen "A Quiet Place" with Honors provided by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and Military Honors provided by The Gaston County Honor Guard.
