CROSS LANES - Oreeta Carney Whitt, 83, formerly of Gastonia, passed away peacefully at Golden Living Center - Riverside on Thursday, April 5, 2012.
She was retired from Wix Filters in Gastonia with more than 40 years of service. She and her husband had many enjoyable years raising and showing show horses. Oreeta loved to dress her Pomeranian dogs up and take them to visit the residents in nursing homes in the Gastonia area.
Oreeta was preceded in death by her parents, Waldo and Mary Hartley Carney; her husband, B.L. Whitt; sister, Edna Mae Tinsley; and brother, John Carney.
She is survived by her nephew, Pat Tinsley and wife Donna of Cross Lanes, W.Va., niece, Lou Dodd and companion Rick Withrow of Cross Lanes, W.Va.,;and several other nieces and nephews.
Honoring Oreeta's wishes, she will be cremated and her final resting place will be with her parents and sister at Showen Cemetery, Bancroft, W.Va. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Cooke Funeral Home and Crematorium is assisting the Whitt family.
