STANLEY - Pauline Mauney Oates, 95, of 807 Mauney Road, died Feb. 15, 2013.

She was born in Gaston County, daughter of the late Ogburn Vance and Lula Canipe Mauney. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stanley for 73 years, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, Girls in Action leader, choir member and vacation Bible school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Burwyn "Tick" Oates; a daughter, Myrna O. Ballard; and four sisters, Elaine Bumgardner, Sue Lail, Betty Laye and Novella Lineberger.
She is survived by her daughter, Andrea O. Abernathy and her husband, Keith, of Lincolnton; two sisters, Ruth Homesley and Cynithia Simmons; and a brother-in-law, Basil Ballard, all of Stanley; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Oates will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, Stanley with the Rev. Tony Fulbright and the Rev. Doug McClain officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Sunday at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly and at other times at the home of Basil Ballard, 507 Summerow Road, Stanley.
