BELMONT - Rachel Hardin Jenkins, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 3, at her home.
A native of Gaston County, she was a daughter of the late Plato White and Georgia Hardin.
Rachel was a longtime and active member of East Belmont Baptist Church. She was a 1939 graduate of Belmont High School, enjoyed gardening and loved to sew.
Rachel is survived by her daughters, Sybil J. Hickes of Lilburn, Ga., and Susan J. Black of Lincolnton; sisters, Mary Frances 'Frankie' Lindsey of Mount Holly, Betty Ruth Norman and husband Jerry of Florida; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur J. Jenkins Jr.; sister, Faith Shumaker; and brother, James 'Buck' Hardin.
Funeral Services will be at 1 pm Friday at East Belmont Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 pm prior. Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park.
