Ray Lowder Obituary

GASTONIA - Ray Lowder, 85, passed away May 17, 2012, at Carillon Asst. Living of Cramerton.

He was born Feb. 23, 1927, in Gaston County, son of the late Thomas L. Lowder and Thelma Adams Lowder.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Gastonia and a member of Masonic Lodge #590 Lowell. He was a Yoeman in the US Navy, having served Oct. 1944 thru Oct. 1948, where he loved to box and was Fleet Champion in his weight class in boxing.
He was formerly employed with Celanese for over 35 years.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Gastonia, officiated by the Rev. Paul Brown.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Interment will be at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia.

He is survived by: wife, Vola Lowery Lowder of Carillon Assisted Living in Cramerton; son, Chuck Lowder and spouse, Marcia Cox-Lowder of San An-tonio, TX; daughter, Susan Howe and spouse, Gary of Hillsborough, NC; brother, Charles Lowder and spouse, Jan of Shelby; grandchildren, Elizabeth Lowder, Katelyn Cox-Lowder, Brian Howe, Andrew Howe.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Gaston Hospice, P. O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054 or Trinity United Methodist Church, 1513 Florida Ave., Gastonia, NC 28052.

Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.

I remember how Ray was so loving and attentive to "his girl" Vola. They were such a delightful couple. I was so moved that out of love for Vola, he stopped visiting her at Carillon because she became so upset went he left. It must have been really hard for him.

I will miss Ray's cheerful smile and warm hugs on Sunday mornings. He was truly a beautiful person who loved the Lord with all his heart.
