MATTHEWS - Robert Betters, 58, passed away Feb. 16, 2011, at his home.

Born in Batavia, N.Y. on Dec. 4, 1952, Bob was the son of the late Robert Betters and Dorothy Conway Betters. He was a graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy and Pfeiffer University.

He began his career in insurance at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and later became an Independent Agent with the Watson Insurance Agency, of Gastonia, where he worked for 26 years. Bob was passionate about his profes-sion and encouraging young people to pursue a career in the insurance field, which he loved. He was on the Board of Directors of InVest, an organization devoted to promoting awareness of the insurance industry. Bob devoted time to teaching a class in Charlotte Catholic High School where he taught students about the insurance industry. He was a true competitor. He loved his family, his friends and golf. Many of his clients went on to become lifelong friends. He truly made a difference in the lives of many people.

He is survived by his wife, Susan, son Michael, daughter Amy and her husband Lincoln Fisher and their two chil-dren, Marin and Camden Fisher, and his brother-in-law Kevin Killoren.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Steven Limentani and his staff at Carolina Hematology-Oncology Associates and Dr. Robert Fraser and his staff for their support and kindness.

Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Heritage Funeral Home, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 8451 Idlewild Road, Charlotte.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the or to the Scholarship Fund of InVest at 127 Peyton St. Alexandria, VA 22314, in Bob's name.
