GASTONIA - Robert Harold "Bobby" Hanks Jr., 60, of 3530 Lincoln Lane, passed away July 4, 2012, in Cape Girarbeau, Missouri.
He was a native of Pulaski, Va., born April 1, 1952, to the late Robert Harold Hanks, Sr. and Edna Cox Hanks.
Bobby was a graduate of Dublin High School, and went on to attend Staunton Military Academy. He was the recipient of an athletic scholarship to Wingate College. After graduating from Wingate College he attended Emory & Henry College in Emory, Va.
Bobby worked in textiles for over 30 years, working for Klopman, a division of Burlington Industries for 18 years, in Society Hill, SC and later at Moiré Corp. of America in Shelby, NC. He was currently working as an independent contractor for Schneider National.
He was a loving husband and proud father and grandfather. He was an avid accomplished golfer through which he enjoyed the
company of many great friends.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Alice Frederick Hanks; his daughters, Laura H Ledford and husband Phillip of Huntersville; Meredith Hanks of Gastonia; Granddaughter, McKenna Brown; Sisters, Patsy Buckner and husband Luther; Sue Roope and husband Ronnie, all of Dublin, VA; brother-in-law, George T. Frederick and wife Donna of Salisbury; Sister-in-law, Sarah Lee Frederick of Winston Salem and nephews, Scott Buckner, Randy Roope, Drew Frederick; Nieces, Brittany F Keys, Leah F Duganne and Kristen Frederick.
The family will receive friends from 3 until 4 p.m. prior to the service at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jim Westmoreland officiating.
Interment will be private.
