GASTONIA - Robert William "Bill" Terrell, 88, died Oct. 6, 2012, at home.

Born in Gastonia, he was the son of the late Robert Bernard Terrell and Nellie Cashion Terrell.
Bill was a longtime magistrate in Gaston County where he served as Chief Magistrate. He served in the US Army and began his career in law enforce-ment with the City of Gastonia Police Department. Bill was a graduate of Gastonia High School and Evans Business College. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church where he was a longtime member of the Separk Bible Class and the Claude Moser Bible Class. He loved his family, his church, and was an avid sports fan. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth Bell Terrell; sisters, Evelyn T. Maurice and Virginia T. Anderson.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Beverly T. Metcalf, and Ann T. Philyaw and husband, Jim, all of Gastonia; grandchildren, Angela Goodwin, Mary Cunningham, Jennifer Metcalf and Meredith Philyaw; sister-in-law, Carolyn K. Bell; a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral beginning 1 p.m. Wednesday from the graveside at Hollywood Cemetery. The Rev. C.B. Barr will officiate.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
