GASTONIA - Rufus Eugene Freeze, 77, formerly of Terrell, passed away April 15, 2014, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

He was born Nov. 13, 1936, in Iredell County, to the late Earl and Daisy Gabriel Freeze.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Homer, Don, Cleo, Joe, Cecil and Tom Freeze. Rufus was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church.
He worked for Burlington Mills for 20 years and then worked for Mooresville Golf Course for over 25 years before his retirement.
Even though he worked for the golf course all of those years and loved his job, he never played one hole of golf. Rufus loved spending time outdoors. He en-joyed evenings in the swing watching the birds and reflecting back on his past. He had more love and patience for any animal than he did for humans. After his retirement, he enjoyed visiting flea markets and talking to the vendors.
Surviving is his loving wife of over 47 years, Debra Sherrill Freeze; children, Michael Eugene Freeze, of Mooresville and Anne Phillips (Bryant) of Gastonia; sister, Linda Freeze Morrison; brothers, Boyce Freeze (Debbie) and Larry Freeze (Betty) of Denver and one grandson, Hunter Bryant Phillips.
Services will be held on Friday, April 18 at 2 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral in the Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Robert L. Kerr officiating.
Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rehobeth United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 356, Terrell, NC 28682.
