Dear Dicky: We are very saddened and shocked that your dear Sharon went home to be home with the Lord so suddenly. She was a blessing to everyone she met. Yet we rejoice that she is Heaven now! I always enjoyed her genuine and sweet demeanor and engaging personality. We wish so much that there is something we could do for you at this time of sorrow. As we continue to pray that you, your and Sharon's families will be surrounded by the Lord's peace, we know that He will be faithful to keep you each of you in His care. We're so sorry not to have been with you at the funeral and at least be able to give you a hug. So many people will miss Sharon because she was a wonderful friend, mentor, and Christian example to us all.My husband, Jim, joins me in sending our deepest sympathies, love and prayers.

Dear Dicky,

We are so saddened by the passing of Sharon. Our hearts go out to you (and the family) at this great loss. We know that you know our lives are at all times in God's hands, and though that certainly is a wonderful blessing, grief is good, and I (Ron) believe something to be thankful for. God continue to bless you, today especially, and in the coming days as you continue thanking and praising Him for all that Sharon meant and continues to mean to you throughout the remainder of your life.

With love and prayers,

Ron and Janie

Dear Dickie and Family, Sharon's former work-family at Duke is heartbroken to learn of her tragic early loss. Elizabeth, Caroline, Annabel, and I -- the only four still in the department from thirty years ago -- send our deepest condolences. Sharon is remembered as a talented, smart, kind, uncommonly civil, and above all Christian woman. Of the many memories I personally have of Sharon, one stands out which particularly attests to her remarkable kindness. Our department was sorting through old materials to be discarded one day, and Sharon discovered a beautiful poster from the Smithsonian Museums reproducing an elegant architectural rendering by architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Having been an architecture student and fan of Wright I was taken by this beautiful poster, but finders-keepers and the poster rightly went to Sharon. A year or two passed, and -- I believe I am correct -- at my birthday party shortly before you and Sharon moved to Virginia Beach Sharon presented me with the poster as a gift. It was not only a surprise but an act of selfless generosity. The poster is framed and hangs in my bedroom to this day, where I admired it at the foot of my bed last night thinking of her, and of you and your Family on this sad occasion, drawing strength from it as we all drew strength and inspiration from Sharon while she was with us. The poster may be mrerely a poster, but it is more importantly a symbol of Sharon's generous spirit and one that reminds me of her every time I admire it. Bless the memory of Sharon Sherrill, and bless you and her family as you all mourn and celebrate this wonderful person who has touched so many lives.

Dear Chaplain,

God bless you! You and Sharon were those who inspire all others as the very best friends to one another. Your love was very great and because of the communion of saints, remains unchanged. She was a sun and shield. She bestowed favor and honor.

She kept and taught the commandments of Christ and so is forever great in the kingdom of God.

I saw a picture of Samson bringing down the Philistine Temple when I was perhaps five. I thought, "Raise your hands straight up and catch the stones. You will survive! He killed 3000 that day, more than in his life.

Let Sharon's life and decease be the source of salvation for such a number, or even for all people through the One she served; the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Condolences! Cordially,

Amber Maloney

Heaven gained a very special person. My time with Sharon was limited to the workplace, and she was an extreme joy to work with. Despite the busy nature of her job, she was ALWAYS very friendly towards me whenever I needed something. In my opinion, that kindness & thoughtfulness was a true reflection of her Christlike character. I am stunned and saddened at the thought of no longer working with her -- and I will miss her. She was truly a gem. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
