GASTONIA - Thomas "Tom" Ervin Sutton, 92, passed away Oct. 23, 2012, at his home.
He was born Sept. 20, 1920, in Gaston County, son of the late Prince Henry and Pearl Parks Sutton.
Mr. Sutton was a member of Second Baptist Church, Crescent Lane, Gastonia, where he was a church deacon.
A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. York Road, officiated by the Rev. Dennis Badger.
The family will receive friends 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Gastonia.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lois Johnston Sutton of the home children, Carolyn Harvey and husband, Calvin, Curtis Sutton and wife, Patricia, Barry Sutton and wife, Ruby, 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Earl and Ronnie Sutton; brothers, Melvin, J.B. and Norman Sutton; sisters, Kathlene Jackson, Louise Costner, Christine Ross.
Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
