SHELBY - Versie Ward Spangler, 91, passed away Dec. 18, 2013, at Hospice at Wendover.

She was born on Oct. 12, 1922, in Rutherford County, to the late Floyd Ward and Dora Bridges Ward.
Mrs. Spangler and her husband, Gene were owner and operator of Aristocrats Barber Shops of Gastonia and also worked in retail sales management. She was a member of Hoyle Memorial United Methodist Church and the Lorraine Chapter #169 Order of the Eastern Star where she was past Marshall. Mrs. Spangler was a founding member of Sea Side United Methodist Church in Sunset Beach.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers, Eddie Ward, Bob Ward, Cecil Ward and Charles Ward.
Survivors include her husband, Ambrose "Gene" Eugene Spanlger; son, Rev. Jimmy Spangler (Teresa) of Belmont; three daughters, Rita McCurry (Jimmy) of Gastonia, Donna Green (Ray) of For-est City and Patricia Smartt (Larry) of Murfreesboro, TN; sister, Beatrice Melton of Forest City; two sisters-in-law, Betty Ward and Frances Ward both of Forest City; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Hoyle Memorial United Methodist Church, Shelby.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Hoyle Memorial United Methodist Church, Shelby with the Revs. Ann Duncan and Gordon Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Fallston.
