BRYSON CITY - Walter Stevenson Cowart, 87, formerly of Belmont, passed away June 8, 2014, at Har-ris Regional Hospital, Silva.

A native of Belmont, he is the son of the late, Ross and Ocie Hansil Cowart and husband to the late Ed-die Shuler Cowart.
Walter was a WWII Navy Veteran, a member of the Belmont Moose Lodge and Belmont American Le-gion Post 144. Most importantly, he was a loving husband and father.

Walter is survived by his daughter, JoAnne Parton and husband, Jack of Bryson City; sister, Betty Gib-son and husband, Charles of Lois, N.C.; six grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; special friend, Fred Cochrane of Bryson City.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at McLean Funeral Directors of Belmont.

A celebration of life service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in the Bumgardner Chapel with Pastor Scott Patterson officiating.

Interment will follow in Hillcrest Gardens, Mt. Holly.

In addition to his parents and wife; Walter is also preceded in death by his loving daughter, Diane Mullinax; five brothers and two grandchildren.
