CHERRYVILLE - William "Bill" Burton Payseur Jr., 88, formerly of 907 Requa passed away May 11, 2012, at Carolina Care Center.

Mr. Payseur was born March 8, 1924, in Iredell County to the late William Burton Payseur Sr. and Mamie Inez Ratchford Payseur; and stepmother, Mary Warlick Weaver Payseur of Lincolnton.

He was retired after 34 years of service from Carolina Freight Corp. where he was a rate analyst in the Traffic Department. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Cherryville, where he served as nursery worker and member and teacher of the Hugh Helms Sunday School Class for 45 years. Mr. Payseur served in the Navy during World War II, where he received nine Battle Stars and was present at The Surrender of The Japanese to the Allies in August 1945.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Kathleen A. Payseur on Oct. 20, 2011, and two brothers, the Rev. Marshall Weaver and Craig Weaver.

Survivors include his son, Greg Payseur and wife, Annie Jean of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Cheryl P. Blackwell and husband, Bill of Wilson, and Jan P. Heavner and husband, Rick of Cherryville; five grandchildren, Brent Heavner, Jonathan Blackwell and wife, Kristen, Chris Blackwell, Jennifer P. Pyne and husband, Danny, Derek Payseur and wife, Crystal; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Payseur and wife, Pauline of Dallas, Jerry Payseur and wife, Doris of Hickory; sisters, Nancy P. Burgin of Holden Beach and Shirley Fawcett and husband, George; and Mary Ruth "Priss" Hoover of Lincolnton; and sister-in-law, Ethel Adams of Cherryville.

Visitation will be 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Cherryville.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Cherryville with the Rev. Ken Gibson and the Rev. Jerry Lail officiating.

Burial will follow in the Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery with military graveside rites.
