STANLEY - Jerry Hall Ballard, 70, passed away at his home Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012.

He was born Jan.24, 1942, in Gaston County and was the youngest son of the late Thad and Dora Hall Ballard.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved brother, Thad Hughlon Ballard.

He was a former employee of Sodyeco in Mount Holly and was a truck driver for DeLuca Valve Instrument Company. He was a graduate of Stanley High School. He was a member of South Side Baptist Church, Charlotte, but due to failing health was unable to attend for several years.

He is survived by his son, Jerry H. Ballard Jr., and wife Annette; two daughters, Donna B. Soles and husband Gary, and Wanda L. Ballard, all of Stanley; eight grandchildren, Jody Ballard, Richard (Buddy) Gardner, and Ashley Soles all of Stanley, Gary Soles Jr., Jeremy Ballard, Brittany Ballard, Bridgett Ballard, and Brianna Mobley, all of Gastonia; two great-grandchildren, Christian Gardner and Jenna Gardner both of Stanley; a brother, Jacob W. Ballard and wife Joyce of Dallas; two sisters, Maxine Rickman of Stanley and Linda Medley and husband Thomas of Mount Holly; one sister-in-law, Ann Burns Ballard of Stanley.

He will be missed by many, but most of all by his children. He took his responsibilities as a father very seriously and was adored by his children and grandchildren.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Ballard will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at The Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly, with the Reverend Doug Agnew officiating.

Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
