GASTONIA - Dorcas Reep Atkinson, 89, passed away Sept. 14, 2012, at her residence.

She was a native of Gaston County, daughter of the late John and Martha Smith Reep; wife of the late Lynn H. "Bud" Atkinson; and mother of the late Ronnie Atkinson.

She was a World War II veteran of the Coast Guard; a member of Covenant United Methodist Church; retired from Threads Inc; and was a member of the VFW Post 9337 Women's Auxiliary.

Survivors in include her daughters and son-in-law Lynn and Randy Bell of Columbia, S.C.; Regina Atkinson of Gastonia; son, Andy Atkinson of Morganton; sister, Cynthia Roberts of Gastonia; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Service, 220 S. Broad St.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Gaston Memorial Park, War Memorial Section conducted by the Rev. Paul Brown.

The family would like to thank her caregiver, Lisa Spencer for her help during this time.

The family requests that memorials be made to the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center, 300 Enola Road, Morganton, NC 28655.
