GASTONIA - Billie Catherine Bookout Knowles, 88, passed away Jan. 30, 2014, at White Oak Manor, Kings Mountain.

She was born in Cleveland County, a daughter of the late Cleo and Noonie McDaniel Bookout.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was always involved in her children's activities. She enjoyed watching basketball games and was an avid reader. She worked for the Belmont Public Li-brary for nineteen years. Always wearing a smile, nothing made her happier than to be with her grandchildren.
Billie is survived by her sons Richard T. Knowles and Thomas W. Knowles III and wife Ernestene W. Knowles; grandchildren Wesley T. Knowles and wife Heidi C., Erin K. Nixon and husband William R. and Katherine R. Knowles; great grandchildren Wesley T. Knowles Jr., Harper L. Knowles and David R. Nixon and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Billie was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Knowles Jr.; sisters Flora Yarbro, Jeanette Dixon, Eloise Derring, Martha Williams, Joyce Bohanan; brothers Douglas Bookout and Vernon Bookout.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Belmont.
The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Minister Samuel P. Warner officiating.
Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park.
Billie suffered many years with Alzheimers disease. She was blessed to have so many people who loved her. Her special friends Helen, Sharon and the late Rev. Eugene Johns provided love and support to Billie and her family. Thank you to all of her caregivers. We are very grateful to all who loved and cared for Billie.
