BELMONT - Violet Mae Wiggins Hawes, 76, formerly of Flint, Mich., passed away Feb. 11, 2014, at her home, while surrounded by her family.

Born in Gaston County, she was a daughter of the late Leroy and Mary Penley Wiggins, wife of the late Burl Hawes.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter Susan Diane Hawes, her sister Nannie Gibby and brothers Lester Wiggins Sr., David Wiggins and Ronald Wiggins.

Violet was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who put others before herself. She is survived by her children Rose Mary Ocana of Belmont, Nancy Drury and husband William of Holly, Mich.

Lester Burl Hawes and wife Leah of Belmont, Fred Albert Hawes and wife Regena of Clover, SC; sister Vergie Lynch of Palm Bay, FL; brother Lt. Col. Donald Wiggins, USN, RET of Hawaii; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at McLean Funeral Directors, Belmont.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, in Bumgardner Chapel with Dr. James C. Hilton officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
