STANLEY - Shirley Dean Morris Coley, 77, passed away March 2, 2014.

She was born in Gaston County, daughter of the late Golden Franklin and Iura Jenkins Morris. She was preceded in death by her husband Cla-rence Ray Coley.

Shirley was involved in many church and volunteer efforts. Her passion in life was the care, protection and education of children.
She worked most of her life in childcare and spent her retirement years working for their welfare. Causes dear to her included the Sack Lunch Program, Prayers, and Squares Ministry, Gaston County Guardian Ad Litem Program, Voices for Kids, Gaston County Hospice Camp Phoenix and Patch-work Memories. She also worked hard for a period of time at Holy Angels in Belmont. She enjoyed sharing stories during Childrens Church time at Sunday Services.

She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Coley Fisher of Iron Station; a son, David Ray Coley and wife Sherry of Mount Holly; two grandchildren, Rebecca Elayne Coley and Dylan Craig Coley; three sisters, Grace Lovitt and husband Jerry, Goldie Morris and Betty Gabriel; one brother, Glenn Morris and wife Edy; and a special niece Meredith Morris.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Coley will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Stanley with Dr. Tony Fulbright officiating.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sack Lunch Program and Prayers and Squares Ministry, First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 490, Stanley NC 28164.
