GASTONIA - Bessie Ellis Hardin, 91, passed away March 5, 2014, at Caromont Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of Andrews, daughter of the late Walter and Martha Jane Dockery Ellis.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Wiley Hardin; brothers, Clyde Ellis, Walter Ellis, Jr., Jack Ellis; grandson, Benjamin Jeffers and son-in-law, Mike Rickard.

Bessie retired from Firestone with 39 years of service. She was a very faithful, lifelong member of Beech Avenue Baptist Church where she taught sunday school. Bessie loved her Lord and enjoyed reading the Bible. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. She had a unique gift of giv-ing to all. Her family was the most important thing to her. Bessie was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her son, Carroll Hardin and wife Ann; daughters, Dianne Rickard, Jerrie Jeffers and husband David; brother, Ray Ellis and wife Brenda; sisters, Bertha Ellis, Fannie Hardin; sister-in-law, Wanda Ellis; grandchildren, Beth and Eddie Belk, Greg Hardin, Wesley and Susan Hardin, Channon Welch and fiancé Scotty Burleyson, Paul and Kim Rickard, Casey Leming and fiancée Kristi Bramlett, Phillip and Dawn Jeffers; great grandchildren, Christopher Belk, Elizabeth Belk, Logan Belk, Cole Welch, Gracie Rickard, Alex Hardin, Katie Hardin, Sarah Hardin, Evie Hardin, Caleb Hardin, Jacob Hardin, Benjamin Hardin, Megan Ham, Brandon Ham; great-great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Ham and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Beech Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Cook officiating.

Interment will follow the service in Gaston Memorial Park.
