GASTONIA - Mrs. Vera Marjorie Day Wallace, beloved family matriarch, 98, of Gastonia, completed a life full of family, friends, fun, food and fishing on Friday, April 4, 2014, at her home. She was born June 1, 1915, in Konnarock, Va., the youngest of seven children, to the late John Henry and Elvira Campbell Day. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Gastonia.

In addition to her parents and six siblings, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elmer Earl Wallace, and her treasured son-in-law, Robert Wayne Yates.
She is survived by her cherished daughter, Margaret Louise Yates of Gastonia; four grandchildren: Lonna Yates of Leland, Deena Yates McAfee and husband Joseph of Bland, Va., Dr. Steven Yates and wife Deborah of Gastonia, Douglas Yates and wife Mindy of Lexington, Ky.; seven great-grandchildren: Brandi Peterman, Ryan Peterman, Aaron Yates, Casey Yates, Shelley McAfee, John McAfee and wife Susan, James McAfee and wife Misti, and one great-great-grandson Joshua Hall and several nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Wallace's life will be held 4 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2014, in Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors with Dr. Ray Ammons officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Birchleaf Retreat Center, PO Box 341, Bland, VA 24315 (where she enjoyed fishing and other activities with family and friends) or Senior TLC (Memorial Fund) 1875 Remount Rd., Gastonia, NC 28054 (where she enjoyed being the first enrollee and interacting with other seniors and staff).
